Dear Friends As we are all aware the Government has announced another national lockdown, starting last week on Thursday 5th November and lasting for 4 weeks. We are pleased to report that this time dental practices will be able to remain open for routine and emergency treatment. It is a relief that we won’t have a repeat of the situation earlier this year when we couldn’t look after our patients properly, particularly those in pain from broken restorations and dental infecti...ons. This year, with all the disrupted appointments, has shown us how important it is to see you for your routine examinations and dental hygiene appointments, particularly as the examination includes an oral cancer check as well as the inspection of the teeth for decay and wear. As for gum treatment, we calculate that around 40% of our patients’ gums have suffered due to a lack of hygiene visits caused by lockdown. It has taken us until October to catch up with the backlog, so we are grateful that we won’t need to cancel patients again. We are fortunate that we have a large and airy Waiting Room which allows us to practise good social distancing and, with our usual high standard of cross-infection control in place and the best PPE we can purchase, our patients can attend the practice with the confidence that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their safety and that of our staff. If you have any questions regarding your treatment and our safety measures please contact Penny on [email protected] or phone her on 01993 831396 and she will be happy to talk to you. Best wishes and keep safe Kind regards Trevor Bigg

November is Mouth Cancer Action month - this is the 20th year that the Oral Health Foundation have been involved with this campaign. Mouth cancers are one of the few types of cancer that are on the increase and they are often noticed during routine dental check-ups but it is important that people know what changes to look for in their own mouths. The video below gives some tips on a quick way to check for changes each time you clean your teeth. Look out for more information throughout the month!

Dear Friends We have just completed our 12th week after re-opening the surgery on the 8th of June. We found wearing all the extra Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) difficult to start with, but it's amazing how resilient everyone is and it has now become the 'new normal'. You will be pleased to hear that we are not passing the cost of the extra PPE on to our patients. I want to reassure you that if you have an appointment with us we can treat you whatever your dental needs.... We are able to offer the same level of service that we did before the lockdown, from check ups through to emergency treatment. We are fortunate that we have a large and airy Waiting Room which allows us to practise good social distancing and, with our usual high standard of cross-infection control in place, our patients can attend the practice with the confidence that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure their safety. The photo shows Sam Jones and Liz, our nurse, wearing the full PPE necessary for an Aerosol Generating Procedure. This is our top level of protection for patients and for us and more comfortable to wear now the temperature has dropped - I think they're smiling but it's difficult to see through all the plastic! We all look forward to seeing you soon. All the best Trevor Bigg
