The Importance of a Smile:) During this time of mask-wearing and social-distancing <->, I immediately felt the effects of not seeing a smile. I noticed it first as I walked into the grocery store, and everyone had their masks on, but were not looking at anyone else .It seems that when we have our mouth hidden, and are focused on covering our face, that we have very little eye contact with each other. As a dentist, I am given the opportunity to see peoples’ uncovere...d faces, and be able to be in close contact with another human being. I feel very blessed that I have the privilege of entering this covered zone . It just made me realize the importance of a mouth to see the expressions and emotions of people. There have been many patients that have been SO happy to remove their mask, and begin talking nonstop at our office. It is if they are given the green-light which they have been anxiously awaiting.(I’m sure people have noticed this, but it just seemed so poignant since we are more isolated from each other.) It will be a wonderful day, when we no longer have to cover our mouths, and can once again view the beautiful myriad of expressions on peoples’ faces. Until then, be thankful that we have made it this far and have the technology to FaceTime, Zoom, Skype, and are able to call and text people at will. Be thankful that this did not happen 20 years ago. No matter how you spend your Thanksgiving , do it with a grateful heart... and, take care of your smiles for they will be on display sometime in the future! Wishing all a safe and tasty Thanksgiving.
